IN THE BEGINNING...
Sean M. Shepherd and Mieka M.
Moore met through a mutual friend in 1997, but their
relationship didn't actually
develop into mutual fondness until they began working out
together at the Alaska Club in
January 1998.
Avid sports nuts, Sean's enthusiasm
for racquetball and weight training complimented
Mieka's interests in weight training
and gymnastics.
Mieka coaches West High School's
Girl's Gymnastics team in Anchorage, Alaska.
This year the West High Eagles
took second place honors during the toughest Region
Four Championship competition
in recent memory. Way to go E A G L E S!!!
Sean was an outstanding baseball
player in High School and the American Legion
League while playing for the
Chugiak Mustangs, and later, on teams in the Anchorage
men's league, but had to quit
the game after having bone surgery on his throwing
hand.
Now however, he's developed a
pretty nasty serve on the courts using his left-hand
and he longs for the days when
he can spend more time swinging a racquet and less
time paying for car repairs.
THE PROPOSAL
Sean and Mieka spent Christmas
Day at Sean's parent's house in Eagle River, Alaska.
Following the opening of presents,
shortly after noon, Sean invited Mieka out for a
midday stroll in winter wonderland.
It was during this walk on Christmas Day, 1999,
that Sean got down on one knee,
in the snow, and asked Mieka if she would take his
hand in marriage. Mieka jumped
with joy and accepted Sean's proposal - what a
splendid couple they make!
Later, back at the Christmas dinner
table, Mieka was conspicuous about showing any
of the rest of Sean's family
her engagement ring (they had a plan). Once dinner was
served, and Sean said grace,
a toast was offered, by an elated Sean, to his new
fiancée. Then, with a
broad smile and a gleam in her eye, Mieka pulled back the sleeve
of her sweater and revealed her
hand and the ring that sparkled on her finger. The rest
is history in the making!
THE WEDDING
The wedding is scheduled for July
1, 2000 with the reception to follow, both to be held
in Utah! So, start saving your
nickels and dimes, and pinching your pennies, because
we're all going to invade Salt
Lake (or Sandy, Utah as the case may be) this summer!
What a beautiful addition this
couple will make to our beloved family's - don't you agree
Paul and Barbara? (You too Jane!)

ABOUT THE-BRIDE-TO-BE
Mieka is the lovely, caring, and
beautiful daughter of Paul and Barbara Moore of
Sandy, Utah.
She was born in Bloomington, Indiana
in 1975, and graduated from Brighton High
School in Salt Lake City, Utah
in 1993.
She has two brothers, Trevor and
Ben. Trevor and his lovely wife Andréa live in
Chicago, while Ben just recently
moved out of Paul and Barbara's house and into an
apartment (to experience the
real world for the first time).
Mieka graduated with honors from
the University of Alaska, Anchorage (UAA), with a
Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology
in December 1997.
An outstanding gymnast, she was
aggressively recruited and accepted a four year
scholarship to UAA as a member
of their esteemed collegiate gymnastics team in
1993.
Mieka is currently employed as
a Therapeutic Pre-School Specialist at the Anchorage
Center for Families and finds
her job uniquely fulfilling.
Her hobbies include spiritual
growth; her three miniature dachshunds: Marley, Laz, and
Rowdy; gymnastics and working
out; crafts; camping, and fishing.
Her favorite activity is sharing
her love for Jesus Christ with her fiancé, Sean, and
attending fellowship gatherings
to learn more about God and to strengthen her faith in
the Almighty!
ABOUT THE-GROOM-TO-BE
Sean is the son of Danny and Sharon
Shepherd of Eagle River, Alaska, and Cheryl
Shepherd of Citrus Heights, California.
He was born in Misawa, Japan in
1975 while his parents served on active duty with the
United States Navy.
His sister Melissa is a sophomore
attending the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
Sean is a 1993 graduate of Chugiak
High School in Chugiak, Alaska, and is currently
completing his teaching degree
with the University of Alaska, Anchorage.
Sean works with children of all
ages and from all walks of life during the day and his
nights and weekends are divided
between spending precious moments with his lovely
fiancée, Mieka, and building
upon his steadfast relationship with God, and his love for
Jesus Christ.
Sean's hobbies remain racquetball, baseball, weight training, and sports in general.
His spiritual hobbies deal with
anything involving spiritual growth. His love for Christ is
genuine and his attitude and
character during work and play reflects his love, sincerity,
and devotion to Jesus and mankind.
